I know I’m not the only mom who frantically texted her husband, “Throw away all the spray sun block ASAP!” when Consumer Reports warned parents earlier this month not to use spray-on sunscreens on children. These sprays are so easy to apply on squirming little bodies, but alas, the chemicals they contain might be dangerous if inhaled—the Food and Drug Administration, in fact, has launched an investigation into aerosol sunscreen to determine whether they should be removed from store shelves.

Fortunately, there are many wonderful, safe sun block products for children and even toddlers and babies—and some of them are actually very easy to apply, too! Here are some of the best options for squirmy kids:

Jason Kids Natural Sunscreen

This SPF 45 broad-spectrum sun block is hypoallergenic and water resistant for up to 80 minutes. Best of all—it’s easy to apply! No thick, chalky white paste that takes forever to rub into flailing little limbs!

Confession: the only reason why I’ve turned to spray sunscreens at all is because the cream kind tends to get stuck under my nails all day and seems downright impossible to wash away…that’s why I love the concept of a sunscreen stick, especially this broad-spectrum one by All Terrain, which is free of oxybenzone, petroleum and paraben!

This non-chemical sunscreen is non-greasy, containing absolutely no mineral oil or scent. Which means you can lather up your kids in sun block before they go to camp and you will not smell like a beach all day at work! Hooray for mommy miracles!
