Honey, I’m home – and my skin looks beautiful! Whether you’re dealing with scrapes, blemishes, age spots or unsightly dry patches, honey is here to save the day! But not just any honey will do – you need the raw, unprocessed variety that’s chockfull of nourishing antioxidants and naturally soothing properties.
1. Soothes minor irritations. Bumps, bruises, scrapes, cuts, burns and other boo-boos are no match for the soothing powers of raw honey. With its natural antibacterial properties, it’s the perfect way to calm angry skin while promoting the body’s natural healing process. (I recommend using a spreadable raw honey, as it’s easier to smooth onto your skin.)
2. Helps clear up impurities. Due its natural antiseptic properties, honey is a popular homemade solution for occasional blemishes. To quickly whip up your own pimple-zapping spot treatment, mix a little raw honey with tea tree oil. For a gentle, homemade honey cleanser and makeup remover (not for use on the eyes), mix with coconut oil.
3. Evens skin tone. To achieve that sought-after “glow,” turn to honey. Certain properties in raw honey may help brighten age spots and even out your complexion. Make your own honey-pumpkin mask — it smells wonderful and will leave your skin looking amazing!
4. Moisturizes and nourishes. Depending on where your honey was sourced, it may contain a bounty of nourishing antioxidants and minerals. Applying it directly to your skin will leave you in a sticky situation — so to get the most out of the moisturizing powers of honey, I recommend adding some squeezable raw honey to a warm bath and soaking for 15 minutes before rinsing.
